Similarly styled Art Nouveau ring settings, all to be set with a single old cushion cut diamond, and many with Greco-Roman mythical subjects, can be found on page 1047 of “French Jewelry of the Nineteenth Century” by Henri Vever. Although highly decorative and fanciful to the modern eye, this particular ring type was once intended to be worn as a gentleman's gemstone ring, which explains its weight and large size.
