This magical intaglio, dating back to Roman times and dating back to between the second and third centuries AD, depicts Abraxas, a deity of Gnostic-Mithraic origin often the protagonist of gems used, in ancient times, as magical talismans. The divinity, in fact, represents the mediation and union between heaven and earth, between good and evil, moreover, it appears in magical Greek texts as an image of power and invincibility.
