The bezel shaped as a hinged cluster set with an cabochon garnet and natural pearl revealing a small secret compartment, to a foliate trifurcated shoulders, mounted in gold. The two-part ring face consists of a lid and catch that opens to reveal a hollow interior. Rings of this type are often romantically referred to as ‘poison rings’, in reference to the famous House of Borgia, whose members during the Italian Renaissance were rumoured to have slipped poison into the drinks of political enemies via the secret compartments of their rings.
