Roman Bloodstone Intaglio circa 1st Century A.D.

The flat oval stone engraved with a bust in profile to the right of probably Minerva; mounted as a ring in a late 19th Century gold setting (1.2 cm.) long.

The use of mounting ancient Roman gems on gold settings to carry out jewels was typical of Italian goldsmithing from renaissance until 19th century.
